Match Scores           What Do I Need to Start?      Safety Policies I Should Know
                              Costs                                            Rules

The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA)

Starting on October 24th and every month thereafter on the 4th Saturday, Brittany Shooting Park (BSP) will be hosting IDPA “Action Pistol” matches at the Rifle and Pistol Berms located south of the main facility. We will begin shooting @ 9:00AM. The ranges should be open for general use after 2:00PM.

IDPA is an international organization that focuses on practical applications with respect to pistol competitions. It is primarily geared toward concealed carry applications; and stages are generally designed to replicate real world situations. Participants will develop and improve their skills by shooting on the move, properly utilizing cover and engaging multiple targets in a tactical format.

The cost for shooting the match will be $15. Anyone that is a member of BSP will receive a $5 discount, and any member of IDPA will also receive a $5 discount. Thus, match fees will range from $5 to $15 depending on your affiliations.

There is a wealth of information on this sight that should answer all your questions. You can begin accessing it by clicking on appropriate link below.  However, if you don’t find what your looking for please e-mail  Dave Birk, the match director, at bspidpa@yahoo.com.

Safety - The Important Stuff You Need to Know!!!!

  1. 1-    Never handle your gun unless you are in the “Safety Area” or on the line ready to shoot and under direction by a safety officer.

  2. 2-  Never Handle Ammunition or Magazines while in the Safety Area.

  3. 3-   Always be aware of your muzzle. Never Break 180 degrees with your muzzle while shooting a stage: and take care never to sweep your opposite hand when moving.  Always keep the firearm facing down range and at a minimum of a 45 degree angle.

  4. 4-   Always listen to, and follow, the instructions of the Safety Officer. Do not perform any action without his direction.

  5. 5-   Never have your finger on the trigger unless you are engaging targets. Always have your finger outside the trigger guard while moving or reloading.

  6. 6-   Never be afraid to ask questions. If there is something you are unsure of, ask the Safety Officer.

  7. 7-   Don’t take the sport too seriously. Having a safe, fun time is the most important goal in this sport.

  8. 8-   Be available to new shooters to help develop their ability as well as direct them toward proper safety practices.

  9. 9-   Pay attention during walkthroughs so you understand how to properly shoot the stage.

  10. 10- Adhere to the “When if Doubt, Don’t” philosophy.

What do I need:
(1)
A Handgun 9mm or larger for Semi-Auto’s; and .38 or Larger for Revolvers. Auto’s need to be able to accommodate 10 rounds in the magazine. Revolvers need to be six shooters.
(2)
A holster for your selected firearm.
(3)
approximately 75 rounds of ammunition.
(4)
A magazine pouch is recommended but not completely necessary.
(5)
minimum of two magazines, three are recommended.
(6)
Eye and ear protection.
(7) We will be moving while shooting. Its best to wear shoes as sandals and flip flops can present a tripping hazard.
(10)
A cover garment - A safari type vest or a button down shirt left open works great.

How Much Will it Cost?: The cost for shooting the match is $15. However we will give a $5 discount to both IDPA members as well as Brittany Shooting Park members. So your match fee will range between $5 & $15 depending on your affiliations.

What are the rules?: We will be following rules and scoring procedures as presented by the I.D.P.A. (International Defensive Pistol Association).  You are welcome to take a look at their website - www.idpa.com to familiarize yourself with the sport. Also, there are many many YouTube videos of IDPA stages being shot. This an excellent way to “see it before you do it”. NOTE* Please don’t let any videos fool you. There are many many skill levels from Novice to Master. Generally what you see on YouTube does not represent the general skill level of shooters. In short, don’t let a video scare you off.
